Last week, Rihanna was accused of plagiarism for her latest single 'B*tch Better Have My Money.' Texas MC Just Brittany claimed that the superstar ripped off her mixtape track 'Betta Have My Money.' Now the songwriter behind Rihanna's track, Bibi Bourelly, is speaking out in light of these allegations.
In an interview with Vibe, the 20-year-old singer/songwriter said she was upset after hearing the news.
"It's like you dedicate [your] entire life to something, you know? You fight for something and actually put the work in, and sacrifice time, like your parents told you to do in order to be 'successful,' just so when you finally reach a victory and it's time to celebrate, some obstacle is there to pull you back down again," she told them. "But that's life, I guess."
She isn't hating on Just Brittany though, she said.
"I don't want to bash anybody or be bitter or mean. I just want to be able to celebrate our victory," she said. "A lot of things change when one is granted success, random people pop up, and a lot of the adjustments are rough. My way of coping with them is through focusing on the things that I have accomplished and the things that are yet to come."
As far as the songs similarities, both share a similar sentiment with the lyric "b*tch better have my money," and both Just Brittany and Rihanna bark out the lyric with insane levels of energy and a similar cadence in the hook.
'B*tch Better Have My Money' and 'Betta Have My Money' also feature intense and explosive backing beats, with Rihanna's arriving courtesy of Kanye West, and it's hard to ignore some of the melodic similarities, as previously noted.
