Wole Soyinka ‘Corrupt Nigerians must not go free,’ Nobel Laureate advises Buhari
By Unknown - Saturday, April 11, 2015
Soyinka also urged President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari to probe whoever needs to be probed and allow the law take its course.
Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka has said that corrupt persons in Nigeria must not be allowed to go free if the scourge of corruption is to be properly tackled.
Soyinka also urged President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari to probe whoever needs to be probed and allow the law take its course.
The playwright stated this during an interview with CNBC Africa which was published on April 9, 2015.
“I believe very much in the rule of law – there are laws about corrupt people. All I want to hear and to see from Buhari is, ‘I’m going to allow the law to take its course’, I don’t want to hear promises like, ‘I’m not going to probe this’ – if it is necessary to probe, probe,” Soyinka said.
“If it’s necessary to make examples, make examples because this nation has been robbed, has been raped – there’s no other word for it – and this has been a continuing pattern. It’s about time that drastic measures are taken to stop this culture of impunity that is transmitted from generation to generation,” he added.
Soyinka also stated that there must be a change in the mind-set of Nigerians before the country can make progress

The lawmakers, in a letter to Justice Daramola, stated that the seven-man panel would serve the purpose of investigating the allegations contained in the impeachment notice served to Fayose.
The 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have urged the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayodeji Daramola to set up a panel to probe Governor Ayo Fayose.
The lawmakers, in a letter to Justice Daramola, stated that the seven-man panel would serve the purpose of investigating the allegations contained in the impeachment notice served to Fayose.
Some of the allegations levelled against the governor and his deputy, Kolapo Olusola are impunity, violence and stalking among others.
The APC lawmakers reached the resolution on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at a special sitting at the Mary Hills Boys’ High School in Ado Ekiti.
Majority Leader, Churchill Adedipe, explained that the session couldn’t hold at the Assembly premises due to the roadblocks mounted by Fayose’s supporters.
“Relying on Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), Adedipe moved the motion empowering the CJ to set up the panel,” a statement by Wole Olujobi, media aide to Speaker, Adewale Omirin reads.
Fayose and Olusola had urged a Federal High Court in Abuja to discontinue the impeachment proceedings but the court declined and instead ordered the lawmakers and Justice Daramola to appear before it on April 15.

"Nyesom Wike loves and worships money; he can betray his mother for money – nothing more, nothing less,” Amaechi said.
“PDP is afraid to come out for an election; they are used to writing results and the era of writing results is coming to an end. How can you see a man like a tout like Nyesom Wike and you will allow him to address you?” he added.
“Be assured that no matter how many criminals Nyesom Wike brings out, no matter how many militants he brings out, if we hold our vote and vote rightly, we will defeat him,” the governor said.
Amaechi had earlier accused Wike of paying $1 million dollars to First Lady, Patience Jonathan monthly in order to gain political favour.
Neighbours said that the landlord’s poor maintenance culture and neglect indirectly led to the deaths
4 unidentified Nigerian students on Thursday died from Carbon Dioxide poisoning from a gas leak, in their apartment in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Neighbours said that the landlord’s poor maintenance culture and neglect indirectly led to the deaths.
Two of the deceased were final year medical students who are due to graduate July 9.
Their bodies were found at around 12:15am on Thursday.
Nigeria has no embassy and diplomatic representation in Georgia, so the bodies of the deceased are at the mercy of the Georgian state.
Nigerians in Gerogia have urged the Nigerian government to come to their rescue as a similar incident which led to the death of two girls also happened in Kutaisi, another Georgian city.
The bodies are currently at the Federal Forensic Bureau for autopsy.
For Men- 10 really ridiculous things you should never say to a woman
By Unknown - Saturday, April 11, 2015
You may have made a mistake or upset her so much that she would never consider giving you another chance
Have you ever taken a lady out on a date, you are dying to see her again and she declines?
Well, you may have made a mistake or upset her so much that she would never consider giving you another chance.
It may be bugging to know what may have gone down along the line, even though you didn't see anything wrong on your first date.
Research says it is almost always something the man says that makes the woman unenthusiastic about seeing him for another date.
Julie Spira of Your Tango lists 10 things that are major turn offs for women and men should never say them especially on a first date
- Are those really your breasts?: Sure we know that men are physical and that they undress women with their eyes when they first meet. That’s fine. Regardless of whether she’s wearing a terrific push-up bra or went under the knife, avoid any comments about a woman’s breasts. Even if you believe it’s innocent, women do not.
- I have a body like a Ferrari: Don’t laugh, but one gentleman wanted to prove to his date why he should be considered as younger than his accurate age that was posted on his online dating profile. While waiting in line for coffee, he described in great detail about his athletic abilities and work-out schedule at the gym. As soon as she heard him compare himself to a Ferrari, she wanted to go home.
- I’ve been on this site too long: We know that online dating is a numbers game, but if you haven’t met anyone online in years that led to a significant relationship, either you’re a serial dater or are way too picky. Either way, a woman will not think you are relationship material.
- What exactly are you looking for in a relationship?: It’s just a first date. Keep the conversation light and easy. If a woman asked a man the same question, he’d run off in a New York minute. Women, like men, don’t like the pressure either. It’s a date, not a deposition.
- I don’t believe in marriage.: Although a woman isn’t ordering her bridal gown on a first date, more often than not, she hopes the relationship will go the distance if there’s a spark. If you tell her you have commitment problems, she won’t want to be the one to change you.
- I’ll call you: Don’t say you’re going to call to be polite. Women don’t buy the line of “I’ll call you.” It’s simple, but true when they say that actions do speak louder than words. If you’re truly interested, pull out your iPhone and put another date on the calendar at the end of your first date. It will give you both something to look forward to and will show that you are a man of your word.
- You’re so hot: You will think it, but find another way to compliment her. If she looks sexy, tell her you like her dress, shiny hair, or smile. Flatter from the neck up only before you get into the bedroom. “Hot” means “sex” right now to a woman. She may prefer being courted a little bit longer.
- I had a vasectomy: Does she really need to know on the first date? Unless she makes a point of representing that she’s looking for children, she’ll think you want to have sex without a condom. Not acceptable.
- I’m best friends with my ex: We’re happy there wasn’t a War of the Roses style divorce, but she won’t want to be lower on the totem pole than your ex-wife or ex-girlfriend in the long term. She’ll be happy if you set appropriate boundaries.
- Do you want to split the check?: Yes, dating can be expensive and doesn't have a money-back guarantee. If it’s your first date, a man should pick up the check. It’s just the way it works in the dating world. You don’t need to pick the swankiest spot in town, but don’t expect her to date you again if its “Dutch” treat. She has plenty of friends to go out with that fit into that category. Feel free to contribute your comments on the inappropriate things that both men and women have said on a date. Singles truly do want to know what they did wrong when they scratch their heads and wonder why their phone numbers become permanently deleted from our PDA.
