The African Film industry is set for a revolution through filmmaking, as High Definition Film Academy (HDFA) launches the 6^th edition of its Script2ScreenAfrica filmmaking and Acting Reality TV project, with the theme “Film as a catalyst for revolution!”. The Reality TV project which is scheduled to hold from July 1^st to August 26, 2017, will host 60 Finalists, 12 Star actors and trail blazing filmmakers as mentors, 20 Short films on Social Justice, and climax with a premiere of the short films at the 2017 Script2ScreenAfrica Awards.
Script2ScreenAfrica is High Definition Film Academy’s yearly intensive Hands-on filmmaking and Acting training, involving three stages: Training, Short Film Competition, and Awards. The academy has successfully organized this training for 5 consecutive years, starting from its maiden edition in 2011/2012. Our 2017 edition is an upgraded and rebranded version of the previous editions; a Filmmaking and Acting REALITY TV project with focus on social justice filmmaking, and will span for Eight (8) weeks

In a time when our continent is overwhelmed with multiple social ills; corruption, injustice, inequality, lack of quality education, lack of power supply, poverty, and insecurity, we seek to train filmmakers with a vision to tell stories that will tackle some of the continent’s most pressing issues head-on, educate viewers while entertaining them, and hopefully pique effective action once the screen’s glow diminishes. Filmmakers who understand that film is an ideal catalyst for change, and linking a powerful story with a highly developed activist campaign could move public opinion and start a revolution.
Auditions across 7 states in Nigeria, 3 countries in Africa, U.S and UK (for Africans in the diaspora) will select 60 finalists into the 2017 Script2ScreenAfrica Reality TV project House. The 60 Finalists are separated into 6 teams of 10 finalists per team (5 filmmakers and 5 actors). Each team is headed by a combo of a star actor and a trail blazing filmmaker as their mentors.

Registration for the 2017 Script2ScreenAfrica Reality TV Project is officially open today February 1, 2017 and will close March 31, 2017. Registrations are done online at the project’s website: www.s2safrica.com

Auditions will begin April 14, 2017. Announcement of the 60 Finalists shall be on May 20, 2017, and the Reality TV project will commence from July 1 to August 26, 2017, which is also the date for the 2017 Script2ScreenAfrica Awards.

Lagos Police Officer assaults Woman because he Suspected she was Withholding information on his lover’s Whereabouts

Officers of the Ejigbo Police Station, Lagos has arrested one Idiahgbe Iyobosa, a riot policeman, for allegedly physically assaulting a 30-year-old woman Oluchukwu Ezemaduka.
PUNCH reports that Iyobosa who is the estranged lover of Oluchukwu’s roommate Maryjane Anyagwa, repeatedly hit her (Oluchukwu) with his boots until she broke her jaw.
Oluchukwu, who is currently receiving treatment for her damaged jaw at West Care Specialist Hospital in Akowonjo, Lagos, said that he assaulted her after she told him that she didn’t know where Maryjane was.
Iyobosa had visited ther ladies’ apartment on Awoyemi Street, off Coker Road, Ejigbo on January 21 at about 9PM, with the aim of passing the night there, but only met Oluchukwu at home.
According to Oluchuwku:

I was not in the room when he came. As I was about to enter the room, I felt that somebody was there; I got a torch from a neighbour and shone it in the room. That was when I knew it was him. He had scattered everywhere.
He asked me where his girlfriend was, I didn’t answer him. He asked me the second time and I told him that I didn’t know her whereabouts. He kicked me several times with his boots, breaking my jaw. He brought out a dagger and chased me outside. It was people, who saved me.
The pain is too much for me. The doctor said I would undergo surgeries this week.

Their neighbour, Henry Okafor, said Iyobosa also attacked him that day when he cautioned him. “He just came from nowhere and started beating the lady. He also attacked me. I didn’t fight him because he was in uniform,” Okafor said.
Maryjane also claimed that Iyobosa assaulted her on several occasions, adding that after they started dating, she found out he was married.

“I was not around that day. When I came back the next morning, my neighbours told me that my boyfriend came to beat up my friend because he was looking for me. He thought she deliberately refused to disclose where I was.
He usually assault me too. Most times, he would not notify me that he would pass the night in my place. He would threaten to deal with me if I report him to the authorities or quit the relationship. I was afraid.
We started dating each other about a year ago. I later knew that he is married with two kids. The wife had warned me to stay away from her husband,” Maryjane said.

Speaking to PUNCH, the father of the victim, Mike Ezemaduka, said he was shocked after seeing the condition of his daughter at the hospital.

“It was a serious injury and she will undergo two surgeries, according to her doctor. The doctor said she needed to recuperate a little bit before he could carry out the surgeries. The lower jaw was broken. We were told that she would no longer be able to chew if she didn’t undergo the surgeries, which will cost about N700,000.
The policeman’s relatives have promised to pay the bill. My daughter is not his girlfriend; she has nothing to do with him at all. Why should he beat someone, whose room he barged into?” Ezemaduka queried.

The acting Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, in a text message, said “The incident was reported at the division for discreet investigation.”

The post read:

LETS EDUCATE THE ILLITERATE AS HE LEADS THE PROTEST. I read Tuface Idibia’s verbal tirade in Vanguard in which he said he will be leading a protest against Buhari on the 5th of February for among other things not paying salaries of civil servants.
I think he needs to be educated about the efforts of the Buhari administration: So far Buhari has released three bail out funds to the 36 states in Nigeria totalling over N1.5 trillion in the last 18 months.
Apart from this another trillion was released as Paris Club refund money to the 36 states. Buhari emphasized the need for the states to prioritize the payment of salaries of workers and pensions of pensioners as these states receive the money.
Unfortunately, instead of some states to use the funds to pay off civil servants and pensioners salary and pension arrears they chose to loot the funds. A governor of one of the South South states siphoned N3b of the funds using his mistress as a front and now the mistress has run away with the funds. Tuface Idibia you can now see why Nigerians are suspicious of the motive and source of the funds for the protest you want to embark on. Why didn’t you lead a protest against these governors who mismanaged the Buhari bail out funds and the Paris Club refund money? Why did you not protest against GEJ’s looting of N51 trillion naira and the Godswill Akpabio alleged looting of over N1 trillion naira from the Akwa Ibom state treasury for which he is being prosecuted by the EFCC? Why didn’t you protest Akpabio’s alleged corrupting of a Supreme Court justice who is currently being tried for corrupt practices on the bench? Is it because you are a corruption apologist? Is it because you are the agent of corruption fighting back? Is it because you are part of desperate plot to poison the hearts and minds against a fantastically incorruptible President who fights the corrupt no matter whose ox is gored? We your fans want to assure you that if you go ahead with this protest we will reevaluate our support for you and it may be downhill for you afterwards. Rethink your actions and reflect deeply. To clear the air people I didn’t call 2face an illiterate and I didn’t write the article as it clearly stated but I agree with some points pointed out by the writer especially how this present administration been releasing bail out funds in little time and other peoples loot bla bla bla….so I felt and still feel that instead of anyone staging a protest we all should put our hands on deck to rebuild our country with everyone being committed to serving the country so there can be peace in the land once more and these killings, corruption and political madness can go away, since I make music I have to be committed to making music that’s going to educate the youths and encourage them to go achieve their dreams and not put them in harm’s way because nobody knows should things escalate and get out of hand it falls back on the people.

Federal Government wants protection of witnesses in Dasuki’s trial

The federal government has again applied to the Federal High Court in Abuja for protection of witnesses that will testify against the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.

Dasuki is facing charges of unlawful possession of fire-arms and money laundering.

The fresh application was brought to court by Chief Oladipo Okpeseyi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), recently engaged by the government to lead the prosecution.

The application filed on January 24 is insisting that the witnesses should be given protection by the court by not allowing their names and addresses to be made public in the course of the trial.

But in a strong opposition to the fresh request, Dasuki asked the court to dismiss the government’s motion because it lacked merit and was an abuse of court process.

In a counter affidavit filed on behalf of the Ex-NSA by his lead counsel, Mr. Ahmed Raji, argued that there was no justification for government to have brought the motion for secret trial for the second time having lost in the first motion.

The defendant insisted that government had on its own volition placed the charges against him in the internet where the names, addresses and positions of the witnesses were conspicuously put at the disposal of the general public.

Dasuki maintained that when the first application argued by the then Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), Mr. Mohamed Diri, Justice Adeniyi Adenola of the same court in a landmark ruling dismissed the request.

It was dismissed because the witnesses were already known by the public having given their names through the internet.

He further said that bringing the same motion to the same court constituted a gross abuse of court process and that what the prosecution ought to do if not satisfied with the decision of Justice Ademola, was to have gone to court of Appeal to ventilate its anger.

Dasuki who attached a copy of the earlier court ruling on the application urged the trial judge, Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed, not to allow the fresh motion for secret trial to be entertained.

When the motion came up today, Opeseyi could not move the motion on the ground that the defence had just served him a voluminous counter affidavit objecting to the motion.

The prosecution counsel told the court that so many fundamental issues were raised in the counter affidavit and that plethora of authorities were also cited in the counter affidavit.

He therefore applied for an adjournment to enable him study the counter affidavit and respond to it appropriately.

Justice Mohammed therefore fixed hearing of the motion for March 1.
The Directorate of State Services had in 2015 slammed a two-count charge of unlawful possession of fire-arms and money laundering against Dasuki.

But the trial suffered a setback last year when Justice Ademola withdrew from further conducting the trial following his arrest by the DSS on allegations of corruption related matters.

The withdrawal of justice Ademola from the trial prompted the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court Justice Ibrahim Auta to transfer the case file to the present judge

The Ex-NSA who pleaded not guilty to the charges was in 2015 admitted to bail by justice Ademola but was disallowed by the DSS from enjoying the bail by re-arresting him and keeping him in the custody since December 2015.

Other courts have also granted bails to Dasuki include Ecowas Court’s order for his release but he is still being kept in detention.
