Those Protesting Against the Present Administration are either Impatient, Permanent Critics or still in “Election Mode” – Femi Adesina
He said this during an interview on Lagos Talks FM where he was a guest with entertainer, Dede Mabiaku.
Adesina added that another group of people in the set of the protesters are permanent critics. Adesina said that those who supported the present administration during the run up to the 2015 election are impatient, adding that “this is a 48-month mandate, and you must give an opportunity for the president that has been elected to pace himself and do the work that he’s elected to do”.
While Adesina was making his point about those still in “election mode”, he was interrupted by Dede, and Adesina said “will you keep quiet and let me talk?”
Dede keep quiet and when he was asked to speak, he refused, saying that Adesina had the audacity to ask him to “shut up”, then he walked out. Dede also said he will not have sycophants talk to him anyhow because they work in government.

Mr. Fix Nigeria Ohimai Godwin Amaize airs his view on “2Baba Idibia, Buhari and the Limits of Activism”
The protest couldn’t have been better timed, coming at a critical phase of our nation’s history when the dominant words on the street are hunger and anger amid palpable discontent over the hopeless incompetence of the Buhari administration since it assumed office on May 29, 2015.
I’m a huge fan of 2Baba Idibia. He is one of several top music artistes in Nigeria who have earned my respect. I’ve also been a leading advocate for the use of pop culture for social re-engineering. However, real advocacy for good governance must not be confused with the politics of emergency activism often inspired by the logic of the stomach.
In the run up to the 2015 presidential elections, 2Baba Idibia, unlike many of his counterparts in the entertainment industry was not exactly quiet. He was at the forefront of ‘Vote Not Fight’ – a campaign aimed at promoting peaceful elections. With all the noble intentions and sheer goodwill that engineered that campaign, there are many who argue that the cry for peaceful elections may not have been as critical as the need to call attention to the danger of the emergence of a Buhari presidency or in more diplomatic terms, empowering citizens with the knowledge and information to make wiser choices.
This is one of the biggest challenges of activism in Nigeria today. People simply want to identify any cause, as long as it is a cause, throw their weight behind it for whatever reasons, as long as it has the potential to either launch them into the public limelight or in the case of those already in the limelight, keep them at the center of public conversations. The danger in this growing culture of activism-for-fame is the substitution of what is more critical with what is more fanciful, economically lucrative or politically convenient.
Except you were not a student of modern Nigerian history, it would have been hypocritical or tantamount to sheer ‘politics’ to feign ignorance of the dangers of a Buhari presidency, at the time he was being repackaged and presented to Nigerians as the ‘messiah’ that would ‘kill corruption’ and lead Nigeria to El Dorado.
Here is a man whose time as military Head of State left a legacy as one of our nation’s worst human rights abusers. Here is a man whose records in managing the economy of a nation fall short of the basic principles of running a local government council. Here is a man whose rigidity, incompetence, and parochial approach to governance led to his lieutenants kicking him out of office, but not before he practically ran the nation aground. Here is a man so famously referred to by Africa’s greatest music legend, the late great Abami Eda – Fela Anikulapo-Kuti as an “animal in human skin”. Publicly available documents contain accounts of Nigerian troops jubilating in the streets in 1985 when Buhari was toppled by his own men. But less than 24 months ago, the failed dictator was presented to Nigerians as the hottest thing since sweet potatoes!
Those who came out to present the real facts of history were blackmailed and labelled as the enemies of Nigeria. All entreaties by those who saw the impending danger fell on deaf ears. An entire nation was thrown into the frenzy of Buharimania! It was the biggest propaganda scam ever witnessed in Nigeria’s 100-year history.
Those performing the orchestra of change said corruption was our biggest problem and Buhari was coming to kill corruption. Now, hunger, not corruption, is killing Nigerians! Yet, in the midst of all that confusion, those who ought to know better either joined the Buhari bandwagon or chose to sit on the fence. As history re-writes itself, it is easier to forgive those who came out to support Buhari than to forgive the ones who chickened out and sat on the fence as Nigeria faced a most defining moment of history. Sadly, 2Baba Idibia falls into this latter category.
Perhaps, nothing captures the implication of our inactions better than the words of the great Desmond Tutu who said; “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.”
In the 2008 election cycle in the United States of America, American celebrities who believed in the change candidacy of Barack Obama rallied behind him. We saw on display a replay of that celebrity star power in 2016 on Hillary Clinton’s bid for the presidency. We saw the likes of Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Katy Perry putting their careers on the line to lend their voices to a cause they truly believed in. It wasn’t convenient but they understood the principle of not sitting on the fence in the heat of battle.
Back home in Nigeria, we remember how Dapo ‘D’Banj’ Oyebanjo came out openly to endorse the candidacy of Goodluck Jonathan in 2011. For whatever it is worth, against all odds, the insults, and the public attacks, D’Banj earned the respect of those who understand what it takes to believe in a cause and take a public stand even when it seems that the whole world is against you.
Many have suggested that this anti-government protest is a badly needed publicity stunt for 2Baba to re-launch his music career. There are many who also believe it is being funded by opposition elements against the Buhari administration. Whatever you chose to believe, I belong to the school of thought that see 2Baba Idibia as a truly Nigerian legend in the making who does not need the platform of a political rally to either re-launch or re-package his musical career. He is actually bigger than that.
In all of this, the real lesson here for 2Baba Idibia and his contemporaries is the need to be more circumspect in the consideration of their roles and responsibilities to society as real change agents.
In emerging social contexts, the celebrity, opinion leader or change agent is no longer at liberty to stay or stand aloof on issues of national consequence, sometimes in the name of being politically correct. Increasingly, societal expectations are becoming societal responsibilities and opinion shapers must adjust, adapt or become mere replicas in the dustbins of history.
Gone are the days when it used to be said that we can do anything we like and get away with it because, “Nigerians easily forget.” No, Nigerians do not easily forget. Not in this age of new media when our actions and inactions are fast becoming digital footprints on our path to a future that never really forgets.
Another lesson that must not be lost in the cacophony of today’s clash of opinions is understanding the true essence of social activism beyond protests and rallies. We must look back into history and learn why for instance, the Occupy Nigeria movement is best remembered today as a farce. We must learn from the legacies of icons like Nelson Mandela, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Martin Luther King Jnr who put in painstaking, time-tested and unwavering commitment into advancing the values they believed in. There are no short-cuts!
As the popular saying goes, “Better late than never.” There are many Nigerians who are happy that the likes of 2Baba have “seen the light” and are taking a step to atone for their inactions that led Nigeria into this current mess. The planned protest is a good start, but an apology from 2Baba to Nigerians for sitting on the fence when his voice was badly needed, would be welcomed.
Aisha Buhari donates Borehole to FCT Community, calls on Nigerians to avoid water-borne diseases by drinking only clean water
Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari has called on Nigerians to ensure that they use clean and safe drinking water in order to avoid water-borne diseases.
She made the call while commissioning a borehole donated by her project – Future Assured – to Gofinda community near the FCT. In her speech Aisha Buhari asked communities to take charge of their health by promoting filtering in areas where clean water is a huge challenge.
Aisha Buhari, who was represented by the former Deputy Governor of Plateau State Pauline Tallen urged organizations and philanthropic individuals to replicate her gesture in other communities as that is the surest way of improving the health of communities. She also called on Gofinda community to protect the borehole from vandalism.
The head of the community Tukura Ismail appreciated the donation and commended her philanthropic gestures in poor and distant communities across Nigeria especially in the area of health promotion and said his community will make the best use of the new borehole.
The youth leader of the community Tukura Al Mustapha, speaking at the event, said before construction of the borehole they had to walk long distances daily to fetch water from a stagnant lake, which exposed them to water borne diseases, he further assured Aisha Buhari that the borehole would be well protected.
Also speaking, Abdullahi Madaki, the Councillor representing Jiwa ward at the council, promised to complement Aisha Buhari’s efforts by ensuring that healthcare facilities were also provided for the community.
This brings to four, the total number of boreholes so far donated by Future Assured.
Until Aisha Buhari’s gesture, the Gofinda Village was faced with dearth of healthcare facilities, good roads, and potable water.
The village is approximately 25 kilometres away from the Abuja City Centre.

Lagos Police Officer assaults Woman because he Suspected she was Withholding information on his lover’s Whereabouts
PUNCH reports that Iyobosa who is the estranged lover of Oluchukwu’s roommate Maryjane Anyagwa, repeatedly hit her (Oluchukwu) with his boots until she broke her jaw.
Oluchukwu, who is currently receiving treatment for her damaged jaw at West Care Specialist Hospital in Akowonjo, Lagos, said that he assaulted her after she told him that she didn’t know where Maryjane was.
Iyobosa had visited ther ladies’ apartment on Awoyemi Street, off Coker Road, Ejigbo on January 21 at about 9PM, with the aim of passing the night there, but only met Oluchukwu at home.
According to Oluchuwku:
I was not in the room when he came. As I was about to enter the room, I felt that somebody was there; I got a torch from a neighbour and shone it in the room. That was when I knew it was him. He had scattered everywhere.Their neighbour, Henry Okafor, said Iyobosa also attacked him that day when he cautioned him. “He just came from nowhere and started beating the lady. He also attacked me. I didn’t fight him because he was in uniform,” Okafor said.
He asked me where his girlfriend was, I didn’t answer him. He asked me the second time and I told him that I didn’t know her whereabouts. He kicked me several times with his boots, breaking my jaw. He brought out a dagger and chased me outside. It was people, who saved me.
The pain is too much for me. The doctor said I would undergo surgeries this week.
Maryjane also claimed that Iyobosa assaulted her on several occasions, adding that after they started dating, she found out he was married.
“I was not around that day. When I came back the next morning, my neighbours told me that my boyfriend came to beat up my friend because he was looking for me. He thought she deliberately refused to disclose where I was.Speaking to PUNCH, the father of the victim, Mike Ezemaduka, said he was shocked after seeing the condition of his daughter at the hospital.
He usually assault me too. Most times, he would not notify me that he would pass the night in my place. He would threaten to deal with me if I report him to the authorities or quit the relationship. I was afraid.
We started dating each other about a year ago. I later knew that he is married with two kids. The wife had warned me to stay away from her husband,” Maryjane said.
“It was a serious injury and she will undergo two surgeries, according to her doctor. The doctor said she needed to recuperate a little bit before he could carry out the surgeries. The lower jaw was broken. We were told that she would no longer be able to chew if she didn’t undergo the surgeries, which will cost about N700,000.The acting Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, in a text message, said “The incident was reported at the division for discreet investigation.”
The policeman’s relatives have promised to pay the bill. My daughter is not his girlfriend; she has nothing to do with him at all. Why should he beat someone, whose room he barged into?” Ezemaduka queried.
“I didn’t call 2face an illiterate… instead of anyone staging a protest we all should put our hands on deck to rebuild our country” – Blackface
The post read:
#NATIONWIDE #PROTESTSTo clear the air, Blackface explains that he didn’t write the article but that he agrees with some points of the writer. He says that instead of anyone staging a protest we all should put our hands on deck to rebuild our country with everyone being committed to serving the country so there can be peace in the land once more.
LETS EDUCATE THE ILLITERATE AS HE LEADS THE PROTEST. I read Tuface Idibia’s verbal tirade in Vanguard in which he said he will be leading a protest against Buhari on the 5th of February for among other things not paying salaries of civil servants.
I think he needs to be educated about the efforts of the Buhari administration: So far Buhari has released three bail out funds to the 36 states in Nigeria totalling over N1.5 trillion in the last 18 months.
Apart from this another trillion was released as Paris Club refund money to the 36 states. Buhari emphasized the need for the states to prioritize the payment of salaries of workers and pensions of pensioners as these states receive the money.
Unfortunately, instead of some states to use the funds to pay off civil servants and pensioners salary and pension arrears they chose to loot the funds. A governor of one of the South South states siphoned N3b of the funds using his mistress as a front and now the mistress has run away with the funds. Tuface Idibia you can now see why Nigerians are suspicious of the motive and source of the funds for the protest you want to embark on. Why didn’t you lead a protest against these governors who mismanaged the Buhari bail out funds and the Paris Club refund money? Why did you not protest against GEJ’s looting of N51 trillion naira and the Godswill Akpabio alleged looting of over N1 trillion naira from the Akwa Ibom state treasury for which he is being prosecuted by the EFCC? Why didn’t you protest Akpabio’s alleged corrupting of a Supreme Court justice who is currently being tried for corrupt practices on the bench? Is it because you are a corruption apologist? Is it because you are the agent of corruption fighting back? Is it because you are part of desperate plot to poison the hearts and minds against a fantastically incorruptible President who fights the corrupt no matter whose ox is gored? We your fans want to assure you that if you go ahead with this protest we will reevaluate our support for you and it may be downhill for you afterwards. Rethink your actions and reflect deeply. To clear the air people I didn’t call 2face an illiterate and I didn’t write the article as it clearly stated but I agree with some points pointed out by the writer especially how this present administration been releasing bail out funds in little time and other peoples loot bla bla bla….so I felt and still feel that instead of anyone staging a protest we all should put our hands on deck to rebuild our country with everyone being committed to serving the country so there can be peace in the land once more and these killings, corruption and political madness can go away, since I make music I have to be committed to making music that’s going to educate the youths and encourage them to go achieve their dreams and not put them in harm’s way because nobody knows should things escalate and get out of hand it falls back on the people. He also tweeted recently:

Customs Declares 2 of its Officers Wanted in Connection with Clearance of truck containing 661 Pump-action Rifles
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has declared two of its officers wanted in relation to the 661 pump-action rifles intercepted by officers of the Federal Operating Unit (FOU), Zone A, Ikeja, along the Mile 2-Apapa Expressway.
The officers, it was alleged, had examined and cleared the container carrying the arms.
PUNCH reports that the wanted officers – Abdullahi, I, with service number 44483 ASC, and Odiba Haruna Inah, with service number 133386 – fled after the weapons were uncovered
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), had said the agency arrested three suspects – Oscar Okafor (importer), Mahmud Hassan (clearing agent) and Sadique Mustapha (escort) – in connection with the arms smuggling.
He had also explained that some other customs officers were arrested, adding that investigations were ongoing.
The spokesperson for the FOU, Jerry Attah, told our PUNCH on Tuesday that the suspects were cooperating.
“Immediately the weapons were uncovered, they took to their heels and that is why we are declaring them wanted. They were the ones that examined and checked the container at the Apapa port. The other suspects, including three other officers, are still in our custody pending the conclusion of investigations. There will be no half measures. We will get to the root of the case,” Attah said.
An alert issued on Tuesday evening by Dan Ugo, the Deputy Comptroller-General, Enforcement, Investigation and Inspection, said that the officers should be arrested wherever they are seen and taken to the nearest customs formation.
The alert read in part: “The above customs officers are wanted in connection with the clearance of a one-by-40-foot container no PONU/825914/3 found to contain 661 pump-action rifles. Whenever/wherever seen, they should be arrested and taken to the nearest customs formation….”

Federal Government wants protection of witnesses in Dasuki’s trial
The federal government has again applied to the Federal High Court in Abuja for protection of witnesses that will testify against the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.
Dasuki is facing charges of unlawful possession of fire-arms and money laundering.
The fresh application was brought to court by Chief Oladipo Okpeseyi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), recently engaged by the government to lead the prosecution.
The application filed on January 24 is insisting that the witnesses should be given protection by the court by not allowing their names and addresses to be made public in the course of the trial.
But in a strong opposition to the fresh request, Dasuki asked the court to dismiss the government’s motion because it lacked merit and was an abuse of court process.
In a counter affidavit filed on behalf of the Ex-NSA by his lead counsel, Mr. Ahmed Raji, argued that there was no justification for government to have brought the motion for secret trial for the second time having lost in the first motion.
The defendant insisted that government had on its own volition placed the charges against him in the internet where the names, addresses and positions of the witnesses were conspicuously put at the disposal of the general public.
Dasuki maintained that when the first application argued by the then Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), Mr. Mohamed Diri, Justice Adeniyi Adenola of the same court in a landmark ruling dismissed the request.
It was dismissed because the witnesses were already known by the public having given their names through the internet.
He further said that bringing the same motion to the same court constituted a gross abuse of court process and that what the prosecution ought to do if not satisfied with the decision of Justice Ademola, was to have gone to court of Appeal to ventilate its anger.
Dasuki who attached a copy of the earlier court ruling on the application urged the trial judge, Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed, not to allow the fresh motion for secret trial to be entertained.
When the motion came up today, Opeseyi could not move the motion on the ground that the defence had just served him a voluminous counter affidavit objecting to the motion.
The prosecution counsel told the court that so many fundamental issues were raised in the counter affidavit and that plethora of authorities were also cited in the counter affidavit.
He therefore applied for an adjournment to enable him study the counter affidavit and respond to it appropriately.
Justice Mohammed therefore fixed hearing of the motion for March 1.
The Directorate of State Services had in 2015 slammed a two-count charge of unlawful possession of fire-arms and money laundering against Dasuki.
But the trial suffered a setback last year when Justice Ademola withdrew from further conducting the trial following his arrest by the DSS on allegations of corruption related matters.
The withdrawal of justice Ademola from the trial prompted the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court Justice Ibrahim Auta to transfer the case file to the present judge
The Ex-NSA who pleaded not guilty to the charges was in 2015 admitted to bail by justice Ademola but was disallowed by the DSS from enjoying the bail by re-arresting him and keeping him in the custody since December 2015.
Other courts have also granted bails to Dasuki include Ecowas Court’s order for his release but he is still being kept in detention.
