The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday threatened to expel ministers who disobey presidential directives and decisions taken by the party.
National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole described as “the height of mischief for any minister to purport to be honourable and act dishonourably”, adding that “nobody is greater than the party.”
Oshiomhole spoke yesterday at the Presidential Villa afte meeting with Chief of Staff to the President Abba Kyari.
He was reacting to the delay by the Minister of Labour, Senator Chris Ngige, to inaugurate the board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Funds (NSITF).
Minister of Trandpoetation (Aviation) Hadi Sirika is also yet to inaugurate the boards of Aviation agencies mant months after President Muhammadu Buhari appointed members.
Ngige was said to have refused to inaugurate the board due to alleged fraud of over N40 billion perpetrated by the previous board.
Oshionhole said: “If the minister refuses, we will suspend him from the party. You know we must return to internal discipline.
“If the President condones disrespect for his office, I will not condone disrespect for the party. And when we expel the minister we will prevail on the President that he can’t keep in his cabinet people who have neither respect for his own decisions nor have respect for the party without which they would not have been ministers.
“There are no independent candidates in our system, nobody, I emphasis no minister is above the party and they have taken undue advantage of the President’s fatherly disposition.
“Now, it is the same green pen that made them minister that appointed these boards that they are refusing to swear in. And it is absolutely legal for a minister in a democracy to prey the powers of the board because the laws establishing those institutions are clear, that the boards have procedures to follow.
“So, when a minister sits in his office to appropriate the powers of the board in a democracy, not in a dictatorship, award contract that didn’t go though boards, those are clearing abuse of office for which they are liable.
“I am convinced that what they are doing is not with the endorsement of Mr. President. Over the period they have tried to drop the president’s name but I tell them it is the same authority that appoint these people.
“So, we are informing them that it is either they comply to the president’s instructions or they comply with the party’s position or they go and administer outside the government.
“We have respect for ministers but only to the extent that they recognize that they are a product of a political party and we are not negotiating that. If they done that in the past under our leadership we will not tolerate it.
“They either comply or we will expel them from the party. When we expel them we will find out how a government can keep a rebel in the cabinet. There is no question about that.” he said

A 20-year-old woman, Mariam Abiola, arrested by police operatives attached to Ilasa Division, Lagos, on Monday said she killed four people between December last year and last week.
Abiola, who said she joined the Eiye confraternity after fleeing from her parent’s home at Abeokuta, Ogun State, told reporters she usually wore wore Jalabilia and hijab to assassinate her targets to cover the gun.
According to her, she was an armourer for the cult group as well as an execution, adding that they usually gave her the picture of a target and identify the person’s house.
Abiola said she was paid N10,000 for each of the four persons she killed for her group at Ilasa, adding that one Sadiq, taught her how to shoot a gun.
She said: ”I ran away from my house in Lafenwa Abeokuta to Lagos to look for work. I met one Mr. Sodiq when I got to Lagos. He took me to his house at Ilasamaja and initiated me into Eiye cult group.
“He took me to an herbalist, who gave me a black substance to eat. He told me that their work was about killing people. He gave me a gun and taught me how to shoot. I learnt how to shoot by shooting on the wall.
“I shot on the wall three times before I learnt how to shoot. Brother Sodiq gave three of us guns and pictures of persons to kill. He trained three of us. Two boys and myself.
“I have killed four persons. Each time that I want to go for the killing, I usually wear a white gown and a white veil (Hijab). Brother Sodiq usually showed us the target’s house.
“We go to the house at night. The two boys will scale the fence and open the gate for me. We go straight to the apartment and shoot at the target at close range. None of our targets survived. I killed one guy at Fadeyi area of Lagos, another one at Hassan in Ilasa, one at Ajeh. “Each time we killed someone, brother Sodiq would pay me N10,000 but he would pay the others N20,000 each. I do not feel bad after killing anyone because I see it as a job I paid to do. ”
Parading the suspect, Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal advised parents to monitor their wards.
He said: “It is worrisome. Her confessions are startling, chronicling the number of killings. Apart from being an assassin, she was also an armourer for the gang.”
Singer R. Kelly, the target of a boycott campaign over his treatment of women, hit back Monday in a 19-minute song in which he reveals he was abused himself.
Entitled “I Admit,” the marathon song nonetheless is heavier on denials than acknowledgement as the “I Believe I Can Fly” star vents frustration over the stream of allegations against him.
R Kelly “I never thought it would come to this, to be the most disrespected artist,” he sings over a mid-tempo R&B beat.
“So I had to write a song about this, ’cause they always take my words and twist it.”
Halfway through the song, Kelly says that a family member touched him sexually from a young age until he was 14.
“So scared to say something / So I just put the blame on me / Now here I am, and I’m trying my best to be honest.”
The Time’s Up movement for gender equality has urged the music industry to part ways with Kelly in the wake of Bill Cosby’s conviction, calling for a world in which women “can pursue their dreams free from sexual assault, abuse and predatory behavior.”
Kelly was acquitted in 2008 of charges of child pornography after a video allegedly showed him in sexual acts with an underage girl.
More recently, a woman in Dallas complained to police that Kelly knowingly gave her a sexually transmitted disease and BuzzFeed News published an expose in which it said that the singer was keeping six women in virtual slavery with control over their diets, clothing and sex lives.
Kelly, 51, in the song suggests racial bias and draws a contrast with positive portrayals of late Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, known for his multiple relationships with younger women.
Kelly admits sex with “both older and young ladies” but adds: “Really, am I supposed to go to jail or lose my career because of your opinions?”
He also chides celebrities who have turned on him including singer John Legend as well as top streaming service Spotify, which briefly removed him from playlists as part of a crackdown.
“I’m not convicted / Not arrested / Dragged my name in the dirt,” he sings.
The Inauguration Speech of Pantu Fwanshak SUG President Unijos 2018/2019 Session
I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices born by our founding fathers. I thank President Samson Luka Haruna for his service to our union, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition. From the year I stepped into this university, inaugurations have been carried out during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, SUG University of Jos has carried on not because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because “We” the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents. That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our Union is at war, against a far-reaching network of disunity and hatred. Our collective conscience is badly weakened, not solely a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some of our leaders, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the SUG UNIJOS for a new age. It is not a gainsaying that the challenges we face are real. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, they will be met. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled not just our union but our politics. We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal. Our domicile is filled up with a lot of questions to answer. The state of our hostels calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act — not only to ensure constant supply of needs, but to lay a new foundation for sustainability. We will build the roads and bridges using legal bricks to work in consensus of mind with the management. We will establish a solid podium for needs assessments through partnership with the faculty Presidents. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to blaze the spirit of the struggle and common brotherhood. To those who never get leery of questioning the scale of our ambitions — who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. For they have forgotten what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage. What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them — that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. The question we ask today is not whether the SUG President is brave enough to lead protest, but whether he is smart enough to take proactive measures to curtail such tendencies. As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our Founding Fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted the tenets to shape our value system through the basic principle of UBUNTU (I am, because you are). Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. Under the shadows of the fallen heroes of the struggle, I stand today to assert with all sense of responsibility that we are the custodians of this legacy. Guided by these principles once more, we can meet those new threats that demand even greater effort — even greater cooperation and understanding between the Students and the Union, and between the Union and the Management. We will begin to responsibly foster mutual understanding and forge love with old friends a
