1. My attention has been drawn to an unfortunate rape and stab incident of a female student of University of Jos which occurred at Russo village behind Mummy Joe's restaurant.

2. The University Community is not a soulless community. If we were, then the outpouring of anger as we have seen it across the community would not have been manifest. Our community has a soul, a heart and a mind.  A soul to respond to these unspeakable crimes committed against women, a heart that reaches out in empathy and solidarity and a mind that does not fall for hate games played by those who wish to pollute the sacred secular fibre of the community.


3. While commiserating with the Lady whose only offense was to go and read for her examination.

4. I want to condemn in strong terms the callous and cowardice act by the perpetrators of this dastardly act. And I pray that the perpetrators never find peace and may the pains they made this innocent soul go through hunt them and their households and come back to them in thousand folds, pressed down and running over till they truly repent.

5. I am deeply concerned about the prevalence of gender-based violence, including sexual violence against girls, which we are witnessing within the University environs. Its less than a week when we have heard four Unijos ladies kidnapped around Odus;  while they have regained their freedom it was alleged unfortunately that two of those ladies were raped. And before we have finished swallowing that bitter pill another insensitive event has occurred.

6. I also want to appeal to the female folks to please exercise extreme caution and move in large mix groups of both guys and ladies. Always ensure that you don't stray into harms way. If possible get a pepper spray, and please always scream  *GREAT JOSSITE*; this is the word that signifies danger and help could come your way.


7. I want those reading this to note that not being assaulted is not a privilege to be earned through the judicious application of personal safety strategies. If this is a learning environment and normal people live here, a woman should be able to walk down the streets of a University Community  at 4 in the morning , without the fear of being assaulted or raped.
We must join our hands and fight against the prebendal forces of primitive mercantilism.

8. As we all continue to read for and write the first semester examinations, I pray that God in his infinite mercies protect us all and  grant us success in the examination.
