Alison-Madueke Says She Has Stepped On Toes, Now Refunding $1.48bn
By Unknown - Thursday, April 23, 2015
Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has disclosed that she has stepped on toes but denied planning to flee the country to escape alleged corruption charges under the incoming Buhari government.
Speaking with State House correspondents at the end of the weekly meeting of Federal Executive Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja yesterday (Wednesday), she said..
“I have not sought such assistance because I am not aware that I have been indicted of any crime that I will need a soft landing,”
“Over the last four years, I have been severally and unfortunately accused and labeled in so many malicious and vindictive ways.
“In this period of time, I have stepped on many big toes, particularly the toes of the cabals that were in the industry when we came in.
“I have said severally said that we will open up the industry to all Nigerians, and we have, but that is not to the pleasure of certain cabals. And I have been continuously maligned because of this.”
The minister, while noting that everything that has a beginning must have an end, said she has done the best for Nigeria in her present job and has attained many firsts in the history of oil and gas especially in the reforms she has initiated.
According to her, the ministry has taken billions of dollars from multinationals and their subcontractors and put them in the hands of Nigerians through the Nigerian content law.
With the reforms initiated under her watch, she said hundreds of thousands of Nigerians are now playing major roles the oil and gas industry, a situation she said has irked many people.
She also on Wednesday disclosed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has started refunding the $1.48bn unremitted fund into the Federation Account as recommended by an audit firm, PriceWaterHouse Coopers.
She however did not disclose how much has so far been refunded.

UK Home Officer ordered to bring back mother and son deported to Nigeria
By Unknown - Thursday, April 23, 2015
"A court ruled that the government must find Bola Fatumbi and her son Rafeeq Atanda by Thursday and bring them back to the UK or it will face contempt of court proceedings. It is believed to be the first time that an immigration judge has ordered the government to retrieve asylum-seekers previously deported from the UK.
"In not taking into account the implications of BF’s mental health for RA, and the risk of that degenerating in the Nigerian context and the likely consequences of removal, the Secretary of State failed to have regard to BA’s best interests as a primary consideration,” the judge said.Justice Cranston said the boy’s best interests and the mother’s poor health were not taken into account and the family could be forced into poverty in Africa.

Olubunmi Ajelero, 3, who was kidnapped at Surulere Baptist church on Sunday has been found and rescued in Abeokuta.
Her uncle spoke to ThisDay about how Bunmi was found, rescued and of course how the Internet and social media publicity helped.
Her Uncle, Adeniran Adejuwon said:
"My niece was abandoned in another church in Abeokuta, Ogun State. It turned out that the church was having a programme when they noticed her presence in the church.
Initially, they thought she belonged to one of the church members, so they carried on with their programme. At the end of the programme, many people left and she was left behind.
That was when they raised the alarm but nobody could identify her. It was a youth in the church, who had seen the viral message announcing her disappearance, that identified her.
He googled the picture of the missing girl circulating on the Internet and compared it with the girl and it matched.
They now took the girl to the police station in Abeokuta. It was the police who now called my brother informing him that they had his daughter in custody.
They asked him some questions like the kind of clothes Oluwabunmi was putting on, her complexion and her other physical features. It was then they invited him to Abeokuta.
When he arrived Abeokuta, they subjected him to another round of tests but what clinched it was when they brought her out and she shouted daddy. They then released her to him."
He also said that no ransom was paid for her release.
It is still unknown what made the kidnappers release the little girl with ransom.
