In Akwa Ibom APC shun elections over mass hijack ballot boxes

   The party said there was a widespread hijack of electoral materials by thugs and armed fake policemen in the state.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State called for the cancellation of the governorship and State of Assembly  elections in the state, as its supporters boycott the process, citing  mass cases of ballot box snatching as the reason.
The party said there was a widespread hijack of electoral materials by thugs and armed fake policemen, accusing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of sponsoring the thugs.
Eyewitnesses  said the April 11 in the state was marred by irregularities, with  massive cases of ballot box diversion, thumb printing of ballot papers  reported. 
It was reported that elections in Akwa  Ibom State.Uyo, Etinan, Onna, Eket, Nsit Ubium, and the five local  government areas of Oro, Uruan, Ibiono, Nsit Ibom, Oruknam, among others  were mostly affected. 
According to the APC governorship candidate in the state, Umana Umana, out of 1,571 registered voters, only 450 ballot papers were sent to his polling unit.
It  also gathered that many centres were also deprived of electoral  materials of and in the areas, where they were provided, the figures  would not tally with the number of accredited voters.
